IDC White Paper - Appro's Xtreme-X Supercomputer Series: Designed
for High Value and Attractive Price/Performance
Since 2002, the dramatic growth of the global market
for high-performance computing (HPC) servers has been driven almost
exclusively by Linux clusters, which in 2006 accounted for more
than half of this $10 billion market. IDC expects Linux clusters
to reach 70% to 80% of this growing market in coming years. The
HPC industry is in the midst of important technology trends that
requires important considerations for product design. These trends
reflect the user community's desire for better reliability, availability,
flexibility, compatibility, power efficiency, as well as price per
performance and TCO.
Analyst Firm IDC examines the Appro Xtreme-X1 Supercomputer based
on Intel Xeon Processors and Appro's Management System in relation
to the needs of HPC and Commercial markets. In addtion, IDC provides
good information about technology trends that are experiencing growth
in adoption such as blade servers, Intel MulticoreTechnologies,
InfiniBand interconnect fabric and Linux.

Enabling Low-TCO Supercomputers through Scalable Units
The quest for greater performance at lower costs has
propelled clusters to the forefront of high-performance computing.
Still, HPC users are demanding continually better reliability, availability,
flexibility, compatibility, power efficiency – and of course
price/performance. Responding to these demands, Appro has introduced
the Appro Xtreme-X(TM) Supercomputing Series, which takes advantage
of the concept of "Scalable Units" to create next-generation
clusters with supercomputer performance.
"High-performance clustering technologies are maturing, and
scalability and availability are becoming crucial elements for critical
business functions in HPC organizations," says Jim Ballew,
Appro's CTO. "In designing our new Xtreme-X Supercomputer Series,
Appro has taken the cluster concept to the next plane of both performance
and cost advantages." To read this full

Petascale -High Performance Computing for
Oil and Gas Market
This IT Executive Briefing is based on
the Appro’s Executive IT Geoscience’s Seminar held October
2006, in New Orleans. This document discusses the Analytical Needs
of Exploration Geophysics. It also discusses how to address those
needs by applying High Performance computing capabilities to the
particular issues of seismic processing, enhanced oil recovery (EOR),
and large, complex reservoirs.
Intel®, along with Appro, LLNL, Schlumberger, Landmark, Paradigm,
and a host of other companies, works with a client company's proprietary
software to increase processing power, memory capacity and bandwidth
capabilities to address these major issues in exploration geophysics.
